Malki SC maintained their top spot in Gionee Shillong Premier League Points table as they played a 1-1 draw against Shillong Lajong FC.
Malki started the match as the dominating one and earned a free-kick in the 3rd minute itself but the resulting kick barely troubled Lajong's keeper, Neithovilie. They continued to press for the opening and were rewarded in the 18th minute when Bantei Shylla landed the ball into the back of the nets.
Lajong youngsters started to find their rhythm in the game and had many chances coming their way in front of goal.
In the 21st minute, Samuel Lalmuanpuia’s shot hit the bar which fell on the rebound and he later tried to head the ball into the net but it went over the bar instead.
At the half hour mark, Samuel made made a delightful run and passed the ball to Hardy but the latter’s shot was parried away by the keeper, earning Lajong a corner, but nothing came out of it.
Five minutes later, Malki payers created a good chance to double their lead only for their striker to miss the target and hit the cross bar.
Referee added 2 minutes into the first half. A sloppy coordination between Malki’s goalkeeper and defender gave way to Lajong’s Bipin Singh, to snatch the ball and cross it towards Hardycliff Nongbri, who calmly converted the shot and equalized for the Reds.
The second half started in a similar fashion as Malki tried to find the nets, but the Reds started taking control of the proceedings as the second half edge towards its midway point and even came close to breaking the deadlock on couple of occasion.
Malki looked out of touch in the final quarter of the match and were at the receiving end as Lajong kept pushing to take the lead, but the match ended with no further scribble on the score sheets and the teams had to settle for a point apiece.
This draw brightens Malki SC chances of making it to the semis as they are on top of league table with 13 points after 6 games. Shillong Lajong are second with 11 points with one less game played and will have chance to overtake Malki on September 12 when they take on Langsning SC in their next game.
Tomorrow Nangkiew Irat will take on Meghalaya Police in Match 20 of SPL.
