The Draws for 2015 SK Kamal Gold Cup has been announced and East Bengal, India's Premier Football Club and the winner of Calcutta Football League 2015 has been drawn in Group B along with Pakistani Club K-Electric FC. Abahani Club of Dhaka and Abahani Club of Chittagong are the other two teams in Group B.
Mohammaden SC, another Kolkata Club that also competes in 2nd Division League will be in Group A along with Dhaka Mohammaden FC, De Spinghar Bazan (Afghanistan) and Solid FC (Sri Lanka).
SK Kamal Gold Cup is an invitational Football Tournament Organised by Chittagong Abahani Club and this will be its first edition. The tournament will be held at M.A. Aziz Stadium, Chittagong from 18-28 October.
This tournament will be a good opportunity for both Indian Clubs to test their squads before their major assignments. East Bengal FC will be sending a second string team for the tournament as most of their First Choice players are on loan to ISL franchises.Red & Golds Head Coach Biswajit Bhattacharya will have a young and inexperienced squad at his disposal and will use this tournament to finalise his team for I-League 2015/16 season.
Mohammaden SC will use this tournament as a platform to get their squad ready for the all important 2nd Division League, whose winner gets Promoted to I-League.
Initially it was announced that I-League 2014/15 Champions, Mohun Bagan will also be participating in the tournament but pulled out later. The Green & Maroons have been in dispute with their Sponsors, United Spirit Limited and currently are without sponsors, which is seen as the reason for their pull out.
