As per report by Bangalore Mirror, the representatives of Ozone Group met AIFF President, Mr. Praful Patel at India-Iran World Cup Qualifier Game on 8th September held in Bengaluru and expressed their interest in fielding a club in I League.
AIFF on Thursday re-invited bids for direct entry to I League for upcoming season starting from January 2016 and Ozone Group are reported to have already procured the bidding documents and are finalising details of the entire process.
The Ozone Group are the principal sponsors of ISL Franchisee, Chennaiyin FC and have recently won the bid to renovate Bengaluru Football Stadium, which when completed can be used as their home ground, given their bid is successful. They already have a youth academy based in Hosur and their U17 team participated in this year's Administrator Cup held in Chandigarh.
It would be interesting to see how the fans would respond to this second club in their city. JSW owned Bengaluru FC, established in 2013 who also won the I League in their debut season, have worked hard to create a good fan base in their two years of existence with 22000 fans thronging Sree Kanteerava Stadium to watch their final game of I League against Mohun Bagan AC.
It would be a huge challenge for the new club to create their own niche in the footballing circuits of the city but they will have the example of their city rivals, at how to run a football club and if they tick all the right boxes who knows, the fans may get to witness another Derby which can rival the Kolkata Derby.
