Derrick Pereira, former Salgaocar FC Coach has been approached by Aizawl FC to become their head coach for 2015-16 season. The Mizoram side has been promoted to I-League after winning 2nd Division League and this will be their first season in India’s Premier Football League.
Derrick Pereira though is taking his time in
deciding on whether to take this job or not. "They have made an offer to me but I am yet to decide. One reason why I left Pune FC was to be with my family in Goa and now to pack my bags again will be a difficult decision," said Derrick.
Derrick's last coaching
assignment was with Salgaocar FC, the club for which he played for most of his
professional career. Under his guidance, the Greens finished 3rd in
2013-14 I-League and also won 2104 Durand Cup. But 2014-15 season proved to be
a difficult one and the team barely managed to avoid relegation on last day of
season by defeating their local rival Dempo SC.
Aizawl FC will become the
first team from Mizoram and 4th team from North East to compete in I-League
and will receive a huge boost if Derrick agrees to take the job. Aizawl FC will
start the 2015-16 season by competing in Mizoram Premier League which starts
from 8th September.
